On
serpentine roads the visitor climbs the
mountain range high above the Guadalete river where
the most important of the White Villages is situated.
31,000 inhabitants (2009) live there and the village is
surrounded by large reservoirs, where you can go
fishing/angling, bathing and surfing.

Plaza de Cabildo – here we find the town hall, the Castillo (castle) and
the Santa María Church with a beautiful
Gothic façade in Mudéjar style and some frescos from the
14th century.

Palaces and noble houses – the houses of the aristocrats Condes de Águila,
Marqués de Terresoto, Pedro Gamazo, de los Virues
and der Mayorazgo palace are all located close to
the castle

San Pedro – fortified Gothic church with Neoclassic bell tower.
Convent of the Mercedarias Descalzas – the
nuns of this monastery sell homemade sweets.

Convento de la Caridad - colonial style building from the 18th
century located outside the village.

Jerez de la Frontera – the biggest city and economic center of the Cádiz
province lies just 35 kms/20 miles west.
Cádiz - 80 kms/50
miles south.
Sevilla – the
capital of Andalusia (approx. 90 kms/60 miles north)
deserves a visit of at least one full day.
